The preparatory committee formed by institutions affiliated with the Education and Teaching Body in the Euphrates Canton has announced the start of celebrations for Kurdish Language Day, which falls on May 15.

Today, the preparatory committee, made up of institutions under the Education and Teaching Body in the Euphrates Canton, issued a public statement announcing the launch of the Kurdish Language Day celebrations in the canton.

The statement was read by Mazloum Jamo, a member of the preparatory committee from the Kurdish Language Institution (SZK) in the Euphrates Canton, in Martyr Akid Square in the city of Kobani, with the participation of teachers, school students, and the University of Kobani.

The statement began: “On the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, which falls on May 15, we extend our greetings and congratulations to all the martyrs, male and female freedom fighters, and to all those who believe in the cause of Kurdistan.”

The statement affirmed the commitment of the educational institutions in the Euphrates Canton to support this occasion and continue their efforts to protect and develop the Kurdish language.

It also emphasized the need for official recognition of the Kurdish language in Syria’s new constitution, adding: “In order for our revolutionary achievements to reach a higher scientific and academic level, teachers, intellectuals, students, and all those working in the field of the Kurdish language must take responsibility for developing and advancing it.”

The statement concluded with: “Based on these principles, we, the preparatory committee of the Education and Teaching institutions in the Euphrates Canton, declare the launch of Kurdish Language Day activities and invite our community to participate in celebrating this day. Long live the Kurdish language, and happy Kurdish Language Day.”
