Cautious calm in rural Sweida after night of intermittent clashes

A cautious calm is prevailing in western rural Sweida, with occasional bursts of fire between now and then, following a night of heavy and medium-weapon clashes between the Syrian transitional government forces and the National Guard forces.

ANHA correspondent in Sweida reported that the village of Najran, in the western countryside, witnessed a cautious calm this morning after being targeted yesterday with heavy weapons, with no human casualties recorded.

He explained that intermittent shelling resumed after dawn in a limited manner, causing only material damage to property.

Over the past two days, the northern and eastern villages, as well as the city of Sweida, witnessed a noticeable escalation by the transitional government forces and the armed groups affiliated with them, including an attempted infiltration toward the town of Majdal from several directions.

The National Guard forces announced at the time that they had repelled those attempts, inflicting losses on the attackers and their equipment, before the intensity of the confrontations subsided to the current state of tense calm.
