Calls to hold perpetrators accountable for attacks on Serekaniye returnees

Residents of Derik, Garkê Legê, Tirbespiye and Kobani condemned attacks against several displaced people from Serekaniye upon their return to the city by those who had taken over their homes. They called on Syria’s transitional government to take immediate measures to protect returnees, ensure their safe return to their areas and homes, and hold those responsible accountable.

In statements and protest rallies, residents expressed solidarity with the returnees, stressing that protecting civilians and safeguarding their rights and dignity are the responsibility of the relevant authorities, particularly amid ongoing arrangements for the return of displaced people to their areas.

Participants called for those responsible for the attacks to be held accountable and for measures to prevent their recurrence. They also called for disputes to be resolved peacefully, respect for civilian rights, and the preservation of social peace and stability in the region.

Residents further stressed the need to provide appropriate security conditions for the return of displaced people from Serekaniye, warning that continued attacks could increase tensions and unrest and urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize peace.
