Body of newborn baby girl found after abuse in Rural Daraa

Residents of the western countryside of Daraa found the body of a newborn baby girl near a landfill in the al-Muzayrib suburb in western Daraa. The infant had reportedly been subjected to abuse.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that a newborn baby girl was discovered near a garbage dump in the al-Muzayrib suburb in the western Daraa countryside.

According to the SOHR, examinations revealed that the infant had been struck on the head with a sharp object, leading to her death, under circumstances that remain unclear so far.

Immediately after the body was discovered, a patrol from the al-Muzayrib police and the criminal investigations department arrived at the scene, and the body was transferred to the relevant authorities to begin investigations.

The SOHR has recorded approximately 33 cases of abandonment of newborns across various Syrian regions since the beginning of 2025. These cases involved dumpsters, bags, and public places, a phenomenon that has raised concern among human rights and humanitarian organizations.
