Baghdad: Coordination on al-Hol Camp with SDF continues

An Iraqi official in the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement said that coordination on al-Hol Camp has been ongoing for years and months with the SDF and under US sponsorship.

The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Asharq Al-Awsat that "many parties are working on the issue of the camp housing families of the terrorist organization ISIS. These parties can be likened to an integrated circle that includes Iraq and the United Nations, which is responsible for the administrative aspect of the issue, in addition to the International Coalition Forces responsible for security, in addition to the Iraqi security agencies."

The same official indicated that "Iraq is concerned with concluding the issue, and coordination is taking place between the Joint Operations Command and other security agencies, such as the National Security and Intelligence Service, to review the files of those returning from al-Hol Camp. Then comes the role of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement in managing the resettlement and rehabilitation operations."

The Iraqi official confirmed that "28 batches of approximately 16,000 individuals have arrived in Iraq from al-Hol Camp so far. Indications suggest that between 4,000 and 5,000 Iraqis remain in the camp."
