Artist from Afrin killed, his and son, son-in-law abducted in Aleppo

Folk artist Mohammad Ali Hassan Habib, originally from the city of Afrin, was killed after succumbing to shrapnel wounds sustained during shelling carried out by mercenaries of the Interim Government on the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo. His son and son-in-law were abducted at the al-Awarid checkpoint at the entrance to Sheikh Maqsoud while they were transporting his body to the town of Bulbula in the occupied countryside of Afrin.

The website “Afrin Now” reported the death of folk artist Mohammad Ali Hassan Habib, a native of Afrin and known as “Abu Ali,” after he succumbed to shrapnel wounds from shelling carried out by mercenaries of the Interim Government on the western section of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

The sources stated that on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the mercenaries abducted two members of his family while they were transporting Mohammad Habib’s body to his hometown of Bulbula in the occupied Afrin countryside, at the al-Awarid checkpoint at the entrance to Sheikh Maqsoud.

According to available information, the abducted individuals are:

Qassem Mohammad Habib (22 years old), the artist’s son, and Ramadan Hasko, his son-in-law. Their fate remains unknown.
