Araghchi: We're still interested in diplomacy with Washington

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Tehran remains interested in diplomacy, but "we have good reasons to doubt the possibility of further dialogue."

In an opinion piece published in the Financial Times, Araghchi wrote that Iran has received messages in recent days indicating that the United States may be willing to return to negotiations.

He also stated, "We are committed to a peaceful nuclear program under UN supervision," but indicated that Tehran would defend itself against any future attacks.

Araghchi explained that Iran wants to engage in broader economic cooperation with Washington.

He continued, "We are open to mutual cooperation with America to revitalize the Iranian economy."

This comes as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country has "no objection" to resuming nuclear talks with the United States, provided trust is restored between the two countries.

In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, which aired Monday, Pezeshkian said, "We see no problem in resuming negotiations."

However, he added, "There is a condition for resuming talks... How will we trust the United States again? We will return to negotiations, but how can we be sure, in the midst of these talks, that Israel "will not give permission to attack us again?"
