The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that 8 pro-Iranian members were killed in American strikes on Deir ez-Zor, including at least Iraqis and Syrians. It noted that the toll is likely to increase due to the presence of severe injuries.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said yesterday that US forces carried out "air strikes on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups allied with Iran in response to attacks on American soldiers in Iraq and Syria."

Austin added, according to Reuters, that "the two strikes targeted a training facility and a safe house near the cities of Al-Bukamal and Al-Mayadeen."

SOHR stated that, "The American strikes targeted weapons and ammunition warehouses and a missile launcher in Hasrat in Al-Bokamal countryside, and Al-Haidariyah farms near Al-Mayadeen city, where at least four explosions hit Al-Bokamal, and a violent one hit Al-Mayadeen that was heard in Al-Bokamal as a part of the American bombing. The striking also resulted in the destruction of the targets and material damage as well."

Today, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin left the door open to the possibility of launching more strikes against “groups linked to Iran” if attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria do not stop.

“These attacks must stop, and if they do not stop, we will not hesitate to do whatever it takes, once again, to protect the forces,” Austin said during a press conference in Seoul.
