Fatima Faraj, the deputy head of the Women’s Office in the Syrian Homeland Party, and Shaima Khalaf, the deputy head of the Party’s Relations Office, spoke to ANHA Agency about the role of women in building a democratic Syria.

Fatima Faraj pointed out that the struggle of women will determine their role in building a democratic Syria, stating: "Women have confronted and fought against patriarchal domination, just as they have fought against the mentality of ISIS and Turkey’s mercenaries."

Faraj further noted that to achieve peace, freedom, and democracy, women must play their role in building a democratic Syria. She continued: "Throughout the long years of the revolution, women in NE Syria have shown great resistance and struggle. They have proven their existence, defined their role in society, achieved great accomplishments, built their own institutions, and, through training and education, reached the level of co-presidency, leading society."

She added: "Equality and justice cannot be achieved in any society where women do not play their role. Women’s involvement in social spheres is of utmost importance, as they represent a free and democratic society. All Syrian women must adopt the Democratic Nation project, as it represents peace and democracy, thanks to self-organization and training."

Shaima Khalaf highlighted that peace cannot be achieved without women, saying: "Women must have a fundamental role in achieving peace and building a democratic Syria. Women are engaged in all fields, and Syrian women, in particular, must take this responsibility. Women in rural areas face many difficulties and require training and support."

Shaima further stated that the absence of women in any form means the absence of democracy and freedom, emphasizing the need to ensure women’s participation in all political, military, and judicial fields.

Shaima Khalaf noted that women in northern and eastern Syria have proven their presence in many fields, and therefore, Syrian women must also adopt the Democratic Nation project.
