Aleppo Governor discusses service, social issues with Kobani Administration

Aleppo Governor Azzam Gharib paid an official visit to Kobani on Sunday as part of efforts to reorganize the administrative structure and unify service authorities.

The governor began his visit with a field tour of several public institutions and departments, including the Internal Security headquarters and the office of the Kobani district director. During the tour, he reviewed the status of services provided to residents and listened to local administration demands aimed at improving service delivery.

The discussions focused on several key demands, including supplying water from the Euphrates River to the city and surrounding villages, expanding and reopening irrigation canals to support the agricultural sector, and opening the Mürşitpınar border crossing to stimulate trade and improve economic conditions in the region.

During his meeting with local administration officials, Gharib stressed that the coming phase would witness stronger administrative coordination, efforts to develop infrastructure, and improvements to essential public services. He also emphasized the governorate’s commitment to allocating additional resources to support vital development projects.

The issue of detainees also received significant attention during the visit. The governor met with families of detainees and martyrs and affirmed that efforts and negotiations are ongoing to address the issue and secure the release of detainees.

At the Baqi Khido Center for Culture and Arts, Gharib chaired an expanded meeting attended by local officials and community elders. Participants discussed mechanisms for accelerating administrative integration plans, overcoming obstacles, and identifying priorities for the next phase.

“The visit to Kobani comes within the framework of strengthening institutional unity and consolidating administrative stability in a way that positively impacts the lives of citizens,” the governor said.

The meeting also addressed several rights-related and social issues, including ensuring women’s rights are guaranteed in the future Syrian constitution and enhancing women’s participation in rebuilding Syria, particularly in recognition of their role in the fight against ISIS/ Daesh. Discussions further covered the situation in border areas, the security threats they face, and the need to address these challenges in a manner that safeguards civilian security.

Participants also discussed the issue of administrative names for Kurdish-majority areas and the importance of adopting designations that reflect the cultural and social identity of local communities. They further emphasized the need to transform the Kobani border crossing into an active commercial gateway capable of supporting local economic development.

Residents of Kobani welcomed the governor’s visit and expressed hope that it would represent a practical step toward opening a new chapter of cooperation and administrative integration, while promoting balanced development that enhances stability and prosperity in the city.
