Alawite community’s sheikh arrested in al-Ghab Plain

The transitional government forces in Syria arrested Issa al-Khair, the sheikh of the Alawite community in the al-Ghab Plain, amid urgent calls demanding disclosure of his fate and location.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the transitional government forces detained al-Khair on Thursday evening in the Hama countryside, without providing any explanation.

He was arrested in front of his home in the city of Sahlab in the Hama countryside, without any formal charges or a judicial warrant, the same source reported.

After being interrogated, he was transferred to a security center known as “al-Nahl” in the al-Suqaylabiyah area. All communication with him was cut off the moment he was moved, prompting his family and residents of the area to issue urgent appeals demanding that his fate be revealed and that he be released.

According to the SOHR, these developments reflect the continuation of arbitrary arrests without legal justification, amid an atmosphere of fear and tension felt by residents in the Hama and Homs countryside.
