Al-Rasheed University staff protest over unpaid salaries

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, faculty members and staff staged a protest over the delayed payment of wages and financial dues.

Sources told the Observatory that employees are facing administrative pressure, along with growing concerns about losing their overdue financial rights.

Alongside the salary crisis, the absence of several service and cleaning workers has negatively affected campus services. Students have complained about the accumulation of waste and declining cleanliness standards in several university facilities, as well as recurring water outages that have disrupted daily life on campus.

The Observatory also documented students’ difficulties during midterm practical examinations due to frequent power cuts. Some students were forced to continue exams and attend lectures using the light from their mobile phones, while classrooms lacked basic cooling facilities despite high temperatures.

In the same context, graduates reported long delays in receiving graduation certificates and official documents. There have also been delays in announcing the results of some exams and semester assessments, alongside complaints about fees or financial charges that students described as unclear.
