Al-Hol Camp facilitates voluntary return of 127 IDPs to Raqqa, Aleppo, Idlib

As part of ongoing efforts to support the voluntary repatriation of displaced people residing in North and East Syria to their original hometowns, the Al-Hol Camp Administration in the Jazira Canton, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), carried out on Wednesday the second voluntary return trip for individuals with medical needs and other vulnerable cases.

This group included 127 individuals across 36 families, who departed to their original regions in Raqqa, Aleppo, and Idlib.

The return trip was coordinated with the Social Affairs and Labor Authority of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Syrian Center for Research and Studies, and representatives from the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration.

This move reflects the Administration’s commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified return for IDPs, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups, such as those with chronic illnesses and other humanitarian cases.

Before the departure, all participating parties signed an official agreement outlining the coordination mechanisms and terms of the return.

In a statement to ANHA agency, Sheikhmous Ahmad, Head of the IDP Affairs Office in North and East Syria, said: “This is the second trip of its kind for camp residents with chronic illnesses and humanitarian needs, based on the decision issued by the Autonomous Administration of NE Syria on January 23 of this year.”

Ahmad added that the Autonomous Administration is doing everything it can to ensure the return of all IDPs to their areas of origin. He concluded by noting that there has been no response from the transitional government to assist Syrians wishing to return to their original homes.
