The first humanitarian aid convoy, organized by the Mesopotamia Association with popular and institutional support from NE Syria, has reached Damascus carrying 55 tons of food supplies and flour. The convoy is expected to continue its journey to the city of Sweida, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in the transitional government.

According to a statement from the association, this move comes in response to the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Sweida since July 13, amid a military and security escalation that has left around 1,500 people dead and displaced over 170,000 civilians. The crisis has also caused extensive damage to infrastructure and resulted in the near-total paralysis of basic services.

The association affirmed that this aid is a direct response to its earlier calls for humanitarian support for affected families, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

This initiative comes at a time when the people of Sweida are facing severe shortages of food and a near-total breakdown of services, amid a lack of effective response from official bodies and international organizations.
