Afrin Displaced hope for safe return after Eid

Displaced residents of Afrin are still waiting to return home after more than eight years of forced displacement, renewing their hopes during both Eid al-Fitr and Newroz to go back and begin cultivating olive trees once again.

In this context, displaced woman Alif Sheikh, originally from Bulbul district, says:

“My wish during the holiday is to return to Afrin, to my home and my land,” stressing that the return must be safe and preserve her dignity and that of all Afrin residents who were forcibly displaced.

Meanwhile, Ali Abdullah, expressed hope that victories will lead to the liberation of occupied Kurdistan and the unity of Kurds across its four parts. He added:

“We want a return that matches our patience, preserves our dignity, meets our needs, and restores our olive trees. All we long for is the olives of our land.”

For her part, displaced woman Fadia Mustafa, from the village of Joqeh, said their only wish during the holiday is to return to Afrin alongside the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), emphasizing that they want to return collectively, not individually.

Afrin’s displaced population has faced three waves of forced displacement in 2018, 2024, and 2025 due to attacks by Turkey and its affiliated factions, as well as more recent attacks by groups linked to the interim government.

Following an agreement signed on January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the interim government, around 400 displaced families from Afrin have returned to their homes.

According to statements by Siamand Afrin, Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah, all isplaced people from Afrin are expected to return to their areas after the holiday.
