8 high-ranking Iranian leaders killed in Israeli bombing in Damascus
Eight senior Iranian leaders were killed this evening, including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, as a result of an Israeli bombing that targeted the Iranian consulate building in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

A diplomatic source told media outlets that members of the Iranian diplomatic corps in Damascus were fine, but the consulate building was completely destroyed.
Mohammad Reza Zahedi holds the rank of brigadier general and is the commander of the “Quds Force” in Lebanon and Syria. For its part, the Iranian “Khabar” channel reported this evening that a number of Iranian advisors, including a senior official, were killed as a result of the Israeli attack.
A military source from the Damascus forces said in a statement: “At approximately 17:00 this evening, the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus. Our air defense forces intercepted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them.”
The source added: “The aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of everyone inside, and work is underway to recover the bodies of the martyrs, treat the wounded, and remove the rubble.”
Al-Watan newspaper quoted an Iranian diplomatic source as saying, "Members of the Iranian diplomatic corps in Damascus are fine, but the consulate building may be destroyed."
Yesterday, Sunday, the Ministry of Defense of the Damascus government reported that two civilians were injured in an Israeli air attack from the direction of the Golan on sites around Damascus.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that a high-ranking leader, Iranian advisors, and 5 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were killed, in a preliminary outcome of the Israeli strikes on a building belonging to the Iranian embassy in Mezzeh, the capital, Damascus, amid information about the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the same strikes.
For the second day in a row, Israeli missiles targeted Syrian territory, destroying the building of the Iranian embassy on the Mezzeh Highway in the capital, Damascus.
Since the beginning of 2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has counted 30 times during which Israel has targeted Syrian territory, 22 of which were air and 8 ground. These strikes resulted in the injury and destruction of about 59 targets, including weapons and ammunition depots, headquarters, centers, and vehicles.
These strikes killed 123 soldiers, in addition to wounding 47 others with varying injuries.
