5 years passed … Serêkaniyê-Tal Abyad are under brutal crimes
For five years, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have been committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the cities of Serêkaniyê and Tal Abyad/Gire Spi, while international powers and organizations that boast about human rights remain silent about them, granting their silence this permission to the occupying state to eliminate humans and destroy nature.
In another new deal targeting the peoples of North and East Syria and their project of Democratic Autonomous Administration, whose parties were once again the forces of capitalist modernity, the cities of Serêkaniyê and Tal Abyad/Gire Spi were attacked by the Turkish occupation state and its Syrian and foreign mercenaries, simultaneously on October 9, 2019, and occupied.
Over the course of 5 years of occupation, Turkey and its mercenaries continued to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity against the people of the two cities and their occupied villages, and those who remained in them afterwards, taking advantage of the international silence regarding its crimes and the differences between the warring parties in the region sometimes, and sometimes by concluding despicable deals with forces intervening in Syrian affairs, to perpetuate the occupation, Turkification, demographic change, and deliberate mass and individual killing based on identity, targeting the Kurdish people in particular and the peoples of the region in general.
Serekaniye... displacement, settlement and Turkification
In the city of Serekaniye in the Jazira Canton, the attacks of the Turkish occupation caused the displacement of about 200 thousand people from the city and its countryside, more than 31 thousand of whom headed to the Serêkaniyê and Washokani camps in Hasakah, while the rest were distributed throughout the cities and towns of the Jazira Canton, from Tal Tamr to Derik.
According to the documentation of the Serêkaniyê Displaced People Committee, the percentage of displacement of the residents reached 87%, and only 45 Kurdish citizens remained in the city, most of whom are elderly.
Instead of its people, the occupation settled more than 3 thousand families of its mercenaries in the city, and the occupation settled 75 families of ISIS mercenaries in the city, and the majority of them were settled in the Zor Ava neighborhood.
In addition to the extensive displacement and settlement operations, the occupation continues the Turkification policy in the region by issuing Turkish identification cards, in addition to changing the currency from the Syrian lira to the Turkish lira, raising Turkish flags and pictures of the President of the occupying state, Erdogan, and Ottoman symbols, and changing the names of schools, streets, and parks to Turkish Ottoman names.
Seizure of property
During the past 5 years, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have seized nearly 6,000 homes belonging to the displaced, and 1,700 shops in the city of Serêkaniyê.
In its countryside, the occupation and its mercenaries have partially bulldozed 5 villages, in addition to completely bulldozing the village of "Ain Hasan", and turning the village into a camp and military training headquarters where mercenaries are hatched.
60 villages have also been completely emptied of their people, including 15 Yazidi villages that were emptied, and their owners' properties and lands were seized, and even the graves of their dead were not spared, as the mercenaries also dug up the graves of the Yazidis.
The occupation also proceeded to excavate antiquities in Tel- Halaf and other archaeological hills in the region and smuggle them to Turkey.
Kidnapping, sexual assault and torture
The crimes of the occupation and its mercenaries did not stop there, but the city that was safe turned into a city of chaos and insecurity, where cases of sexual assault, disappearance and kidnapping are common. They committed 11 cases of sexual assault in the city and its countryside, most of which were against minors, while the number of kidnappings, disappearances, field executions and torture reached 1,112 cases, while the number of missing civilians reached about 72 cases.
Explosions and Fighting
The situation in the city of Serêkaniyê is no different from the situation in the rest of the Syrian cities occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries in terms of fighting between the mercenaries themselves over the division of stolen goods, as more than 120 cases of fighting between mercenaries occurred in the city and its countryside, in addition to 72 explosions.
Human and drug smuggling networks
The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have turned the city of Serêkaniyê and its countryside into a passage for smuggling people from Syria through 23 networks, most of which are managed by mercenaries under the supervision of Turkish occupation officers with the aim of obtaining money, at a time when the occupation soldiers continue to target anyone who approaches the border, as the number of killings on the border has reached 15 cases so far.
The region has also become a center for the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, as the occupation mercenaries grow hashish in 3 villages in the countryside of Serêkaniyê.
The crimes are not limited to the city and those who remain in it, as the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries have deliberately cut off drinking water to more than a million people in the city of Hasakah since occupying the city, by stopping the "Alouk pumping station", the main supplier of drinking water to the city of Hasakah.
Girê Spî.. Displacement and Looting
In the city of Tal Abyad/Girê Spî, the situation is exactly similar to what it is in Serêkaniyê in terms of the crimes committed, as the occupation and its mercenaries displaced more than 100,000 Kurds and Arabs from this city and its villages, and about 7,000 of them headed to the Girê Spî camp in the countryside of Ain Issa, while the rest headed to the cities of Raqqa, Tabqa and Ain Issa.
With the aim of changing the demographics of the region, the Turkish occupation settled 1,849 families of its mercenaries and from other Syrian regions in the homes of displaced civilians that were seized and looted.
It also began, starting in 2022, to settle Syrian refugees from inside Turkey after forcibly displacing them in this region, and so far about 40,000 Syrian refugees have been settled in Turkey within the city and its countryside, exploiting it to change its demographics.
War crimes and crimes against humanity
Since the start of the Turkish occupation attacks until now, the Violations Documentation Center has monitored the martyrdom of 75 people, including 3 women, while the number of injured exceeded 2019 people, including 17 with permanent disabilities. In addition, 8 people were executed in the field, most of whom were civilians who were arrested during the attack on the city or while returning to it to check on their property.
In addition to the kidnapping of hundreds of citizens, at least 89 of whom were forcibly disappeared and tortured, including 26 people who were transferred to trial inside Turkey, and are still detained in the prisons of the Turkish authorities, in a clear violation of international laws.
The occupation and its mercenaries also seized more than 5171 residential homes, 1180 commercial and industrial shops, and 12 factories and industrial facilities.
The mercenaries and Turkish intelligence evacuated 64 villages of their residents. And seized more than one and a half million dunams (150 thousand hectares) of agricultural land.
The Turkish occupation gendarmerie also killed 14 Syrians, including a child, and wounded 77 people with their bullets near the border in the countryside of the city of Tal Abyad/Gire Spi, including farmers who own lands adjacent to the border after they were targeted while working on their lands.
Looting grains and turning schools into military headquarters
Immediately after occupying the region, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries looted all the grains that were in the silos of the region; such as "Dehliz, Sakhrat, and Sharkrak" and transferred them to the Turkish interior, while people continued to starve.
The occupation and its mercenaries also turned dozens of schools into military headquarters such as (Ali Bajliya and Kafifa schools), thus depriving thousands of students of education.
Looting Antiquities
The occupation is striving to erase the identity of the peoples in the occupied areas by bulldozing and looting archaeological sites, such as what happened in the hill of al-Dahliz in the town of Suluk, the archaeological hill of Sahlan in the village of Khirbet Al-Raz, and two sites in the village of Hamam al-Turkman, namely "the city of Al-Far and the white boy", in addition to allowing antiquities thieves to excavate in other sites.
The crimes are similar and the criminal is one
What the cities of Serêkaniyê and Tal Abyad/Gire Spi are experiencing is completely similar to what the cities of Afrin, Jarablus, Azaz, al-Bab and the rest of the occupied Syrian cities are experiencing. The crimes are diverse and numerous, but the guilty criminal is one, which is the Turkish occupation and its Syrian and foreign mercenaries, but the international powers, for the sake of their interests, turn a deaf ear and close their eyes to these crimes.
