October 9, marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the attack by the Turkish state and its mercenaries on the cities of SerêKaniyê and Tal Abyad/Girê Spî, using all types of weapons, including internationally prohibited weapons,

Turkey occupied an area 110 km wide and 30 km deep inside Syrian territory, in its third ground attack, as the first of which was from Jarabulus, Azaz and Al-Bab in August 2016, then Afrin in 2018.

The occupation came as a result of a new political deal between the three deals within the Astana track (Russia - Turkey - Iran), to expand Turkey occupation of Syrian territory starting from Afrin to Tal Abyad / Girê Spî and SerêKaniyê.

Moreover, Turkey worked to establish this occupation by displacing the indigenous population after practicing what international reports generally described as war crimes and deliberate killing.

Flaky pretexts for occupation.. SDF responds, Turkey is a "rogue state"

Following the geographical defeat of ISIS mercenaries by the Syrian Democratic Forces in March 2019, Turkey's anger increased. So Turkey escalated its movements under flimsy pretexts and arguments, namely protecting its borders, which contradicts the facts on the ground, where Turkey did not move during ISIS's presence along the Turkish border.

From historical perceptive, Turkey has ancient ambitions in the city of SerêKaniyê that was subjected in the second year of the Syrian crisis in 2012 to an occupation attempt by Turkey through its mercenaries "Jabhat al-Nusra". However, the resistance shown by the People's Protection Units and the Women's Protection Units thwarted that plot.

Since then, this city has been a target of Turkish occupation attacks throughout that period until 2019. In order to remove the Turkish occupation’s arguments and prevent it from launching attacks on the region, the Syrian Democratic Forces responded to the calming efforts following talks between the United States of America and Turkey on the one hand, and between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the international coalition on the other hand.

On August 7, 2019, an agreement was announced, stipulating the formation of a "safe zone" and a joint operations room between the two parties (Turkey and the United States of America), and joint American-Turkish patrols began to a depth of 5 to 9 km, and the Syrian Democratic Forces withdrew all their military forces and weapons, and removed military barriers under the supervision of American forces to dispel the Turkish alleged concerns.

Despite this, the American decision during the term of former President Donald Trump to withdraw from Syrian territory, following a deal with Turkey, provided an opportunity for the latter to complete its ambitions in Syria. Turkey violated what was agreed upon and launched an attack on the cities of SerêKaniyê and Tal Abyad. causing a denunciatory reaction from many military and political circles within the United States of America and European countries, who accused the American president at the time of abandoning Washington's commitments to support partners against fighting ISIS mercenaries in the region.

 Heroic resistance united people

The Syrian Democratic Forces announced their readiness to confront the attacks of the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, and to defend their areas in the North and East of Syria region under the name of "Resistance of Dignity", and they managed to prevent the attackers from entering the two cities for 10 days, despite the use of aircraft and missiles, including internationally prohibited weapons.

As the continued resistance and the great popular pressure in NE Syria and the international community abroad, Turkey, Russia and America were forced to be satisfied with the former occupying the two cities.

After that, both Russia and the United States resorted to action, as America said that it had agreed with Turkey on a ceasefire, followed by Erdogan's visit to Russia and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 22nd of the same month.

Due to an understanding between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Russian forces that stipulated the conduct of Russian patrols in the border areas between the Turkish occupation army and the Autonomous Administration, in addition to the deployment of the Damascus government forces in those areas. Despite this, the efforts of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries to occupy more areas in NE Syria have not stopped until now, especially the targeting the region's infrastructure and the leading figures.

After the occupation of the two cities, the Turkish occupation began to change their identity and culture through the demographic change in the population structure, and the displacement of the people and the settlement of the families of its mercenaries, most notably ISIS, along with the Turkification of the region by imposing the curricula of the Turkish authorities and dealing in the Turkish currency.

The attacks and crimes of the Turkish occupation in Serekaniye and Gire Spi have caused the displacement of more than 300,000 civilians from the region, and the settlement of families of mercenaries, Iraqis, Afghans and Turkmen in their place.

According to statistics from the Autonomous Administration, approximately 100,000 civilians have been displaced from Girê Spî and its countryside, and 6,031 displaced persons live in the Girê Spî displacement camp, which was established on November 22, 2019 in the town of Tal al-Saman, north of the city of Raqqa, and the rest of the displaced persons are distributed in Raqqa, Tabqa and Kobani.

The displaced persons from SerêKaniyê are distributed in the Washo Kani camp, which was established in 2019, and includes 14,714 individuals and 2,373 families. After the number of displaced persons increased, the Autonomous Administration opened another camp for the displaced in the city of Hasaka, which includes 14,073 displaced persons and 2,815 families.

The displaced are distributed as follows: 1,150 individuals, 230 families in Al-Darbasiyah, 4,500 individuals and 900 families in Tal Tamr, 2,000 individuals and 400 families distributed in Zarghan, 1,600 families distributed in the neighborhoods of Hasaka city and 6,590 individuals, while 9,174 individuals are distributed in Al-Arisha. In Qamishli: 694 families and 3470 individuals in the city center of Qamishli, 323 families and 161 individuals in the city of   Girkê Legê, 310 families and 1550 individuals in the city of Amuda, 30 families and 150 individuals in the city of Tal Hamis, 193 families and 965 individuals in the city of Tirbespiye, 14 families and 70 individuals in the city of Tal Brak, 115 families and 575 individuals in the city of Çil Agha, and in the city of Derik 866 families and 4330. In addition, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries evacuated and displaced the residents of 15 Yazidi villages in SerêKaniyê and its surroundings, seized 65 homes and all the property of the Yazidis, destroyed 80 homes in the villages of Al-Dawudiyah and Khirbet Jamo, and built military barracks in place of those homes, in addition to digging up the graves of the Yazidis and removing The remains of them.

The occupation also settled in the first days after the occupation 400 Iraqi ISIS mercenaries in SerêKaniyê and Girê Spî, and transferred 1,400 Syrian mercenaries with their families from Idlib, and kidnapped 78 people on charges of working for the Autonomous Administration.
