Today, 34 political parties and organizations in North and East Syria issued a statement to the public, expressing deep concern over the tragic events that have taken place in the Sahnaya and Jaramana areas in the Damascus countryside—events that have claimed the lives of innocent civilians and stirred feelings of discord and a desire for revenge among members of the same nation.

The statement emphasized that resorting to violence and the use of weapons in this critical and painful situation to resolve disputes among the Syrian people is unequivocally condemned. Such actions only serve the enemies of Syria and its people. It stated: “Weapons bring nothing but more bloodshed and destruction. They close the door to dialogue and mutual understanding, which must remain the sole path to addressing issues and resolving conflicts.”

The signatory parties and political organizations called on all parties involved to immediately cease fire, to let reason and wisdom prevail over the language of revenge and incitement, and to uphold the principles of national unity and the public good—away from all forms of sectarian, ethnic, or regional mobilization.

They also called on all political forces, social actors, community leaders, and religious and civil institutions to shoulder their ethical and national responsibilities, take the initiative to calm tensions, and actively work to mend rifts and prevent a slide into internal conflict that would benefit no one.

The statement affirmed: “Syria belongs to all its children, and what unites us is far greater than what divides us. Let us preserve what remains of our social fabric, work together to stop the bloodshed, and build a homeland governed by peace, justice, and equality.”

Since April 28, regions in the Damascus countryside—including Jaramana, Sahnaya, and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya, which are predominantly inhabited by Druze and Christian communities—have witnessed armed clashes following the circulation of an audio recording containing religious insults. This has triggered widespread tensions extending to university areas and other cities in Syria.
