19 days of suffocating siege on Kobani

The siege of Kobani entered its nineteenth day, with factions of the interim government imposing a suffocating blockade that has led to a deterioration in the humanitarian situation. Residents are facing a severe shortage of basic necessities, along with a dangerous decline in both health and living conditions.

Kobani is experiencing a shortage of medicines, particularly those for chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes, while cancer patients have been prevented from completing their treatment as they are forced to seek it outside the city.

The shortage of baby formula exacerbated the crisis, coinciding with the depletion of vegetables and basic foodstuffs in the markets. Power outages disrupted vital hospital departments, while fuel shortages further compounded the hardship faced by the city's approximately 600,000 residents and IDPs

Despite these dire circumstances, the people of Kobani remain steadfast in their determination to persevere.

The siege was supposed to be lifted under the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government on January 29 and announced on January 30, with implementation scheduled to begin on February 2. However, the siege continues to this day, despite meetings between the internal security forces in Kobani and the security forces of the Interim Government aimed at implementing the terms of the agreement, as well as a visit by a delegation from Kobani to Aleppo Governorate to discuss the city's situation
