18 people killed, injured in Sulaymaniyah clashes 

Late last night and into the early hours of today, heavy clashes erupted near the residence of Lahur Sheikh Jangi, head of the People’s Front Party, in the city of Sulaymaniyah. The fighting, which lasted for three hours, ended with the arrest of Lahur and his brothers.

According to the Roj News Agency, the clashes resulted in the killing of 3 security personnel and the injury of 15 others, who were transferred to the city hospital for medical treatment.

The number of dead and wounded among Lahur’s “Lalazar” forces has not yet been disclosed.

In addition to Lahur Sheikh Jangi, his brothers Aso and Polad were also arrested, while Rebwar Hami Haji Ghali, commander of the “Lalazar” forces, surrendered himself to the security authorities.

Who is Lahur Sheikh Jangi?

Lahur Sheikh Jangi is a Kurdish political figure in Southern Kurdistan. He was born in 1975 and comes from a political family. He previously served as the co-chair of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) alongside Bafel Talabani, the son of late Iraqi president Jalal Talabani.

Following deep internal disputes within the party, Jangi founded a new party called the People’s Front, through which he participated in the 2024 Kurdistan parliamentary elections, securing two parliamentary seats.
