Yazidi women in Rojava face firman self-organization

The Yazidi community has been subjected to dozens of firmans (genocide) throughout history, one of which is the 74 firman that was signed by ISIS mercenaries on August 3, 2014, which is also known as the Yazidi women’s firman, during which ISIS mercenaries kidnapped thousands of Yazidi women and children and sold them in the markets of Mosul and Raqqa .

  According to Yazidi associations; During this firman, ISIS mercenaries kidnapped 6,417 Yazidis, including 3,548 women and 2,869 men, so that the various liberation campaigns that were launched later resulted in the liberation of 3,739 Yazidis, including 1,203 women, while the fate of the rest of them remains unknown.

Today, 9 years have passed, but the wounds of the Yazidi community has not healed yet, and many countries, led by Iraq, have recognized these attacks as "genocide", and the October 9, 2020 agreement between the Turkish and Iraqi states and the Democratic Party is considered Kurdistan, in continuation of the 74th firman.

Efforts to liberate the Yezidis

The Women's Protection Units (YPJ) in Rojava, during the campaigns to liberate the region from ISIS mercenaries (the campaign to liberate al-Baghouz in 2019, the campaign to liberate Al-Raqqa in 2017, the campaign for security and humanity in al-Hol camp in North and East Syria in 2021-2022) rescued hundreds of Yazidi women and freed them from The grip of ISIS mercenaries, but many women still seek liberation.

With the aim of highlighting the situation of Yazidi women and liberating the abductees, a conference was held in the German city of Bielefeld in 2017 against the genocide of Şengal and women, and it was decided during the conference to engage in the joint struggle. In the same year, a "platform for the struggle for abducted women" was established.

Organization of Yazidi women in Rojava

In Rojava, in 2021, Yazidi women began to organize themselves in order to avoid repeating firman Sengal, and they founded the Yazidi Women's Union in Rojava.

The founding conference of the Yazidi Women's Union was held in Rojava in the Shahba region on June 29, 2021, in the presence of 300 Yazidi women from different regions of Jazira, Afrin and Aleppo.

The Federation opened its first center in Sardam camp, located in the village of Tal Susin in al-Shahba on February 28, 2022, then it began to expand its organization and opened a center in TirbiSipi district of Qamishlo canton, and the Federation now has 3 main centers in Rojava distributed in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo and the Shahba region and TirbiSipi.

A member of the Yazidi Women's Union in Rojava (YJÊR), Fella Hassan, told our agency: "Yazidi women have always been subjected to firmans, so they have strengthened their struggle to put an end to the crimes committed against them."
