AA of Jazera: Şengal massacre must be classified as genocide

The Democratic Autonomous Administration in Jazera region called on the international forces to classify the Şengal massacre as a genocide, and noted that the policies aimed at annihilating the Yazidi community are continuing.

Today marks the 9th anniversary of the 74th (Farman) Şengal massacre, which was committed by ISIS mercenaries after the KDP forces fled Şengal district during the attack.

In this regard, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Jazera region made a statement to the public opinion.

The statement of the Autonomous Administration was read at the Executive Council in Amouda district by the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Jazera region, Vivyan Bahou Ossi, in the presence of members of the Democratic Autonomous Administration.

The statement read: "Today marks the ninth anniversary of the Şengal massacre, which was committed by the terrorist organization ISIS with support of Turkey, with the aim of exterminating the Yazidi people in Şengal, and to add another massacre to the other 72 massacres that were committed against the indigenous, peaceful Yazidi people."

The statement stated that: "This massacre, which claimed the lives of thousands of martyrs, the wounded and the missing, and the mass graves that were discovered, is a testament to the terrorism and brutality practiced against men, women, the elderly and children.

The perpetrators and their supporters are still outside the grip of justice, we ask the international community to declare this massacre as a genocide.

The statement stressed: "The tragedy that the Yazidi community has been subjected to is a disgrace to humanity in the twenty-first century, and that the continuous Turkish attacks against Şengal through its warplanes and drones are a continuation of the massacres carried out by ISIS, with the aim of breaking the will of the Yazidi people, after the liberation of Şengal and the establishment of their Autonomous Administration and its protection forces, so as not to repeat other massacres when those who were claiming to protect Şengal abandoned them and left them to confront ISIS terrorism.

The statement indicated that the Turkish occupation, through its support for mercenaries and its continuous targeting of the regions of NE Syria, and the extermination policies in Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, and its continuous targeting seeks to exterminate the people of the region and avenge ISIS.

The statement stated: "We in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Jazera condemn this massacre, remember the martyrs of the Şengal massacre in 2014 and all the martyrs of the Şengal resistance, and we affirm that what happened is genocide.

The statement called, "Therefore, we call the Yazidi community to strengthen its organization, and rally around its Autonomous Administration to confront all policies and projects aimed at extermination, and we also affirm our support for its resistance in the face of all policies that aim to undermine its will."
