France returns women and children of ISIS families from camps in NE Syria

Today, France confirmed that it has returned 10 women and 25 children of its nationals from ISIS families who were in camps in NE Syria.

The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "The minors were handed over to the concerned services concerned with providing social care for children, while the adults been handed over to the judicial authorities".

There are tens of thousands of people, including families of ISIS mercenaries of more than 60 nationalities, in the Al-Hol and Roj camps in NE Syria.

France has been condemned by international bodies for its slow return of its nationals from these camps. 16 women and 35 children were returned to France during the first process in the summer of 2022, followed by a second one in October, which included 15 women and 40 children, according to France Press.

Last January, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the return of 15 women and 32 children, days after they were condemned by the United Nations Committee Against Torture.

Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "France thanked the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in NE Syria for its cooperation that made this process possible".
