Al-Sahhaf: Intergovernmental meeting on Al-Hol camp in Syria

“A meeting that includes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser, missions and organizations residing in Iraq will be held today to discuss the Iraqi government’s vision regarding al-Hol camp in Syria,” the spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahaf told the Iraqi News Agency.

Al-Sahaf noted that “ending the issue of al-Hol camp has become a supreme interest for Iraq due to its societal repercussions.

Al-Sahaf added, "The government calls on the international community to urge all countries that have nationals in al-Hol camp in Syria to return their nationals as quickly as possible and close this camp, which has turned into a dangerous social hotspot."

He made the point clear that  "The government took the initiative to distribute tasks and define responsibilities for a group of government institutions to continue the transfer, rehabilitation and integration of all Iraqi families coming from al-Hol camp, in a clear methodology and direct government responsibility."

He stated that: "The government managed to transport 10 meals to Iraqi families coming from the Syrian al-Hol camp to the country, at a rate of 1,393 families, or an average of 5,569 individuals."

He pointed out: "The importance of the international community's response, in coordination with the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold a conference at the level of foreign ministers to discuss ending the file of the Syrian al-Hol camp and close it once and for all."
