188 of Syrian refugees evacuated from Sudan

Sudan has been witnessing an armed conflict between the army headed by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces headed by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, since last April 15, which has so far claimed more than 900 deaths and thousands of injuries, and has prompted millions to flee and seek refuge, while the United Nations fears that the fuse of the crisis will extend to neighboring countries.

The Autonomous Administration took it upon itself to return the Syrian refugees stranded in Sudan, as an immediate response to the appeal of their families.

Today, the Department of Foreign Relations in North and East Syria revealed, through a statement, that the Autonomous Administration evacuated, through 3 flights, 341 people who were stuck in Sudan, stressing that it will carry out its national and humanitarian responsibilities.

The statement came: "With the increasing pace of war in Sudan, which we hope will calm down and stability will be achieved in the brotherly country as soon as possible, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and through the Department of External Relations continues to carry out its responsible duty towards the stranded of our people in Sudan after the evacuation of more than 150 people, including children and women, in the first week of May, and their delivery to Qamishlo, the Department of Relations, through coordination and follow-up, decided to succeed in a new evacuation process, which consisted of 18 people, including 3 infants, and their delivery to Qamishlo, and a third flight consisting of 170 people, including children. Including 31 infants, in addition to women and three bodies of our people who were stuck in Sudan. The last batch arrived in Damascus.”

So far, the number of stranded people evacuated by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has reached 341, including children, women and infants, during the month of May 2023, in addition to three bodies in 3 flights.

These attempts come in the context of the Autonomous Administration's initiative that was launched on April 18, and included in one of its clauses the return of refugees to their areas of origin who fled outside Syria, as well as an immediate response to the appeal of the families of those stranded in Sudan.

The Department of Relations in the Autonomous Administration and through its entities and departments confirms that it is responsible for carrying out its national and humanitarian responsibilities.

The Autonomous Administration confirmed: "After this number, there are some obstacles, we are trying to avoid things, but there are clear difficulties. We thank all the parties that contributed and cooperated in  evacuation processes."
