Exceptional meeting of Arab foreign ministers to resolve Syria's return to ALS

Today, Arab foreign ministers meet at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in an unusual meeting, in which the issue of Syria's return to the League of Arab States is scheduled to be decided.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of delegates, held a meeting to prepare for two exceptional sessions at the level of foreign ministers, to discuss developments in the situation in Sudan, and the return of Syria to the ALS, they were headed by Egypt, the president of the current session of the Arab League.

 Today, Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to resolve the issue of Syria's return to the League of Arab States, during an exceptional meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

 Arab foreign ministers had suspended Syria's membership in the League by a majority of 18 countries, after an emergency meeting in Cairo in November 2011, about 8 months after the outbreak of protests in Syria.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Jamal Rushdi, said, "It is expected that the Arab foreign ministers will resolve during their meeting the issue of Syria's return to the Arab League," noting that "the meeting comes following  two meetings in Jeddah and Amman that discussed the Syrian crisis and the Arab role in it.”  He added, "The decision to return Syria to the Arab League requires consensus among the Arab countries."
