Al-Asr Office denies misleading information about leader Ocalan

Al-Asr Human Rights Office issued a written statement, in which it clarified some misleading information about leader Abdullah Ocalan, with the approaching parliamentary and presidential elections in Turkey.

In its statement, Al-Asr Human Rights Office stated that the May 14 elections are very important for the people of Turkey, and said: "We hope that these elections will result in a democratic and peaceful future."

It also pointed out that as election approaches, some parties resort to manipulate votes, and that: "Mr. Ocalan is  under strict isolation conditions, and no information has been received about him for 25 months. But despite that, some circles also make Mr. Ocalan's situation mysterious due to  misleading information, so we, as his lawyers, had to publish some points related to this matter.”

At these points,  Al-Asr office drew attention to the isolation in Imrali and the failure to receive any information from the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the rejection of the requests of lawyers and the family by the Turkish authorities.

The office noted that since the day Imrali prison was built, its purpose was to destroy the detainees psychologically and physically, stressing that because of this, discussion of the isolation system in Imrali is prevented in a reasonable manner.

The office also referred in its statement to the ongoing discussions, and said: "We want to point out once again that no information has been received from Ocalan since March 25, 2021. Despite all the requests of the lawyers and the family, we have not received any information from Ocalan and our three clients who are being held in Imrali prison."  This is concerning to us and public opinion."

Al-Asr office stated: "The political centers entered into the propaganda competition about Ocalan, during the electoral phase. We tell the entire community that the conditions of strict isolation continue and that these discussions are taking place without Ocalan's knowledge. What must be done is that he meets his lawyer immediately. We believe that ignoring the isolation and meditional discussions are not right under these circumstances as there are no opportunities for Ocalan to express himself. We believe that everyone will take this sensitivity as their basis and act accordingly."
