On the 7th of April 2016, Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo was bombed with internationally banned chemical weapons. It was carried out by the mercenary groups of the Turkish state after 4 years of battles in the neighborhood, during which the mercenaries were unable to occupy the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods as a result of the heroic resistance of the People's and Women's Protection Units and the people's revolutionary war waged by the people of the two neighborhoods.

Before that, the neighborhood was subjected to similar bombings with chemical bombs on March 8 of the same year. On the 7th and 8th of April, the neighborhood witnessed further shelling with toxic substances.

The statistics were not accurate at the time due to the ferocity of the battles; However, according to the figures published by ANHA’s agency at the time, about 200 civilians lost their lives and 600 others were wounded as a result of the attacks launched on the neighborhood within 6 months, by the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation army.

The numbers and scenes were shocking, but media neglect prevented highlighting one of the most heinous war crimes in Syria by using chemical weapons against the Kurds in a neighborhood that remained and is still besieged.

Most of the rockets and missiles with which the neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud was bombed wrote retaliatory messages in Turkish directed against the Kurdish people, and although the parties carrying out the bombing are the groups "Sultan Murad, Ahrar al-Sham, Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement, the Mujahideen Army and other groups," the goal is to exterminate the Kurds in that besieged geographical area; It was clear what and whom he was serving; In light of reports that Ankara has provided these groups with chemical weapons.

Entitled "Armed Opposition Groups Commit War Crimes in Aleppo," Amnesty International's report was issued following the chemical attacks; The organization had stated that it had “collected strong evidence of serious abuses from eyewitnesses and obtained the names of at least 83 civilians, including 30 children, who were killed in attacks in Sheikh Maqsoud between February and April 2016, and more than 1,000 were injured.” Over 700 civilians were also injured, according to the local field hospital.

Six civilians and fighters affiliated with the People's Protection Units showed symptoms such as shortness of breath, numbness, red eyes, and bouts of severe coughing. The armed groups who attacked Sheikh Maqsoud may have used chemical weapons.

In a statement a week after the attack, it was said to have been issued by the commander of the armed group "Jayish al-Islam" that one of the field commanders had used "a weapon that he did not authorize" in the attack on Sheikh Maqsoud, and that he would be held accountable for that.

Like Sheikh Maqsoud... The mountains of Kurdistan are another chemical war against the Kurds

In Southern Kurdistan, the fighters of the Kurdistan Liberation Movement are subjected to the most violent attacks since the movement declared the armed struggle against the Turkish occupation in 1984. With all its military capabilities, the Turkish state is trying to annihilate the will of the Kurdish people represented by the liberation movement in the mountains of Kurdistan.

The numbers may seem shocking, but they indicate the scale of the attack carried out by the Turkish state against the Guerrilla. According to the numbers, more than 5,000 chemical attacks have been carried out by the Turkish state against Guerrilla fighters in the mountains of Kurdistan since February 2021.

It has been proven that the Turkish army also uses many banned bombs. In addition to chemical gases; A type of tactical nuclear bomb is used that destroys the tunnel system and creates a toxic effect in a very narrow geographical area. These bombs are not only bombs to spread nuclear radiation over a wide area. Deadly effect in a narrow geographical area, heat bombs and phosphorus bombs that have the same destructive properties are used.

The use of these weapons by the Turkish occupation army against Guerrilla has been documented dozens of times. In addition, these documents and pictures of the use of chemical weapons have been provided to more than 40 countries.

This issue has been discussed in the parliaments of many of these countries, but so far no position has emerged against the Turkish occupation, which uses chemical weapons and violates all international laws and norms.

The Turkish occupation army has been using these weapons against the Kurdish people since 2015. In addition, the Turkish state has intensified its efforts to develop nuclear weapons, and recently it has become clear that the Turkish state is using tactical nuclear weapons.

Between Erdogan today and the clash of yesterday... the dictatorial mentality and insistence on extermination

Since World War II, which witnessed unprecedented atrocities in the history of humanity; the end of a brutal era in the view of the modern world; Kurdistan's geography is still witnessing an unprecedented war of extermination being waged by the remnants of the mentality of the First and Second World Wars embodied in the regimes of the Middle East.

On the Kurdish geography, the Kurds are facing an existential war. Where the dictatorial regimes that use chemical and nuclear weapons in order to end a historical fact in the cradle of humanity over a century ago.

Saddam Hussein's regime, which used chemical weapons to kill thousands of Kurds in Halabja; He did not face any difficulties or direct accusations. The genocide of more than 180,000 Kurds in the Anfal campaign in Southern Kurdistan did not move the feelings of the international powers. The war on Iraq and the trial of the Iraqi regime were not for the sake of the Kurds, but rather came after the West pleaded that Saddam Hussein threatens Western interests.

Today the world ignores one of the most heinous crimes of the current century; What Saddam Hussein did yesterday, Erdogan is doing today, which is the same mentality of the ruling regimes in the Middle East. Chemical bombs, tactical nuclear bombs and other missiles used against the Guerrilla in the mountains of Kurdistan are many times more than what Saddam Hussein used in the bombing of Halabja.

Despite this, international forces and human rights organizations did not issue any condemnation against the Turkish state for its use of internationally prohibited weapons. In addition, human rights missions are unable to access these areas and document the use of these weapons under various pretexts that serve and encourage the Turkish state.
