AANES issued a statement to the public opinion, on the fifth anniversary of occupation of Afrin, which reads: " Today, with the passage of five years since the occupation of Afrin, as a result of a clear-cut deal between Turkey and Russia, and after a historic resistance that lasted 58 days with a heroic struggle, in which our people in Afrin and all of NE Syria participated, Turkey and its mercenaries are still continuing their policy of extermination against Afrin and its people, from kidnapping, systematic killing and extermination of nature through Turkification operations and passing the most dangerous schemes against humanity are considered war crimes, in addition to the dirty practices of terrorist groups which practices everything  violates international humanitarian and criminal laws, especially what it did during the earthquake that struck the region, as this disaster revealed the true face of those mercenary groups and their masters towards our people."

"On the fifth anniversary of the pain and occupation of Afrin, we remember the resistance of the age and bow in honor of the souls of our martyrs, and we salute our steadfast people who forcibly left their homes and continued their heroic resistance, by adhering to the option of return, and insisting on struggle, in the al-Shahba camps, amid difficult living conditions, and we affirm that hat happened in Afrin is a "flagrant attack on the identity of Syria and its diverse society."

This attack requires clear Syrian national positions, far from any geographical, national or societal bias.

We also appeal to all the active forces in Syria, the United Nations, human rights and humanitarian institutions to work seriously and get out of timid and non-existent attitudes even towards Afrin and the occupied areas, and to show a spirit of responsibility towards the Turkish practices in occupied areas."

We call on the international community to send fact-finding teams to assess the dire situation in Afrin, and thus prosecute and hold accountable those responsible for the crimes committed there.

We in the Autonomous Administration renew our emphasis on Liberation of Afrin and our occupied regions, as a strategic decision, we condemn all the practices of Arab forces to carry out in interaction with Turkey and its occupation project against our people, we also stress our complete rejection in all forms of any deals or understandings between Turkey and other parties, including the Syrian regime, at the expense of the Syrians and our people, furthermore, we commit to our Syrian national constants in building a democratic, just, plural model for all Syrians, away from any deals or agendas that serve personal political interests.
