People of Hasaka recalls Halabça massacre

March 16th, coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Halabça massacre, which claimed the lives of about 5,000 Kurds in Başûr (Southern Kurdistan) in 1998 at the hands of Saddam Hussein's regime.

 Accordingly, a mass meeting was organized by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the Rasho hall in the city of Hasaka.

The meeting was attended by hundreds of residents of the city of Hasaka, in addition to dozens of members of civil institutions and centers in the city.

The meeting began with the observing 5 minutes of silence; In honor of the souls of the martyrs, then the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party in the city of Hasaka, Yusra Elias, delivered a speech, in which she recalled the martyrs of the Halabja massacre, and considered March 16 as a black day for all Kurdish peoples.

Yusra pointed out that "The Halabça massacre was carried out within the framework of the plan to annihilate the Kurds, during the use of internationally prohibited chemical weapons by the defunct regime in Iraq against defenseless civilians."

She added: "The Halabça massacre is one of the most painful massacres in human history against the Kurdish people."

She explained that "the capitalist regimes seek to obliterate the historical, civilizational and cultural identity of the Kurdish people on their historical land, by persecuting them and committing cultural and ethnic genocide against them."

At the end of her speech, Yusra Elias condemned "all the crimes committed against the Kurdish people."
