PDK hampers aid for NE Syria

On Wednesday, the Kurdish Red Crescent said through a statement that the Faysh crossing prevents the entry of international and regional humanitarian aid for distribution in the affected areas of Syria.

The statement read: “The earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023 resulted in a great humanitarian catastrophe and great damage that the people of the region suffer from until this moment.

Accordingly, the global and regional humanitarian community made a great effort to provide financial and moral assistance to the people affected by this earthquake, so they find the Kurdish Red Crescent a place of trust to reach aid for the affected areas."

The statement added: "But, unfortunately, and without identifying the reasons, we face great obstacles, the latest of which was yesterday (21-2-2023) when our humanitarian aid convoy was prevented from entering by the Faysh Khabour crossing and its affiliated authorities.

That is why we must inform the whole world about these obstacles as soon as possible. We in the Kurdish Red Crescent refuse decisions, and see them as meaningless. It is our duty as a Kurdish Red Crescent to deliver the aid for impacted places."

The Kurdish Red Crescent concluded its statement by saying: "We urgently hope that these parties that put these obstacles will reverse these decisions and open all humanitarian ways and doors for assistance."
