20,000 students in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh deprive of education

Over Damascus government's siege, and lack of capabilities of the General Council in the neighborhoods, schools have turned into temporary shelters for those affected by the earthquake that struck Bakur and Turkey on February 6, and many Syrian regions, including the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo.

According to a report issued by the Council the schools have been converted into temporary shelters, due to the displacement of parents, which necessitated stopping the educational process during the coming period, and depriving 20,000 students from studying.

It is noteworthy that 150 buildings and houses in the two neighborhoods were damaged and subjected to collapse, completely or partially over the earthquake.

According to the co-chair of the Democratic Society Training and Education Committee, Fatima Koshan, Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods include 13 schools, 5 of which have been turned into shelters, while 8 schools were damaged by the earthquake.

On Saturday, the co-chair of the Education Body in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Samira Haj Ali, announced the extension of the suspension of school hours in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, the Euphrates region and Shahba canton.
