8,900 victims, injured in Syria quake

On Monday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Kurdistan, Turkey, and northern and central Syria. It also affected the regions of northern and eastern Lebanon, and its aftershocks spread across the eastern Mediterranean region, leaving behind so far thousands of victims and great destruction.

The death toll and the injured rose in the areas occupied by the Turkish occupation state and its Syrian mercenaries, as statistics indicated that more than 2167 people lost their lives and more than 2950 injured, and the number is expected to increase significantly, because there are hundreds of families under the rubble.

For its part, the Ministry of Health of the Damascus government revealed that the number of earthquake victims had risen to 1,408, and 2,341 others were injured, in an indefinite toll.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Health's report includes the areas under the control of the Damascus government only, and does not include the rest of the Syrian regions.

There has also been no change in the outcome of the Health Body, as the number of victims and injured remains the same in NE Syria, which reached 6 victims and 57 injured.

Non-politicization of the aid file

The European Union, through its envoy to Syria, Dan Stoinescu, called on the Damascus government "not to politicize the issue of humanitarian aid," and expected the Damascus government to submit later "requests for exemptions from sanctions after the earthquake," according to Al-Arabiya Network.

This comes at a time when the Damascus government, and the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation are preventing the entry of aid sent by the Autonomous Administration to the affected areas in Syria.

On Sunday, the Democratic Society Movement condemned the Damascus government's prevention of the crossing of two convoys through the al-Tayha crossing in Manbij, to the stricken areas in Aleppo, saying in a statement: "The Damascus government is still politicizing it at the expense of the victims."

It added, "Despite the catastrophic situation, the Damascus government deliberately blocks roads and crossings in the face of aid provided to the Syrian people."
