More than 8892 victims, injured over devastating earthquake in Syria

On Monday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Kurdistan, Turkey, and northern and central Syria. It also affected the regions of northern and eastern Lebanon, and its aftershocks spread across the eastern Mediterranean region, leaving thousands of victims and great destruction so far.

The death toll and the injured rose in the areas occupied by the Turkish occupation state and its Syrian mercenaries, as statistics in those areas indicated that more than 2166 people lost their lives, and 2950 people were injured, while the number is still expected to rise due to the presence of hundreds of families under the rubble.

For its part, the Ministry of Health of the Damascus government stated that 1,387 people lost their lives, and 2,326 others were injured, in an indefinite toll.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Health's report includes the areas controlled by the Damascus government only, and does not include the rest of the Syrian regions.

There has also been no change in the outcome of the Health Body of North and East Syria, as the number of victims and injured remains the same in NE Syria, which reached 6 victims and 57 injured.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had warned on Friday, that the devastating earthquake may have displaced 5.3 million people in Syria, which has been suffering mainly from a conflict that has been going on for nearly 12 years.

"Up to 5.3 million people may be displaced by the earthquake," UNHCR representative in Syria Sivanka Dana Bala told a press conference in Geneva, referring to preliminary estimates of people who will need shelter in all affected areas of the country.
