Our people need immediate help, KRC appeals

 This came during a statement made today by the Kurdish Red Crescent about the latest developments and the relief work that was provided to those affected by the earthquake in northern and eastern Syria.

 The statement was made by the co-chair of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Hassan Muhammad Amin, in front of the tents that were set up in the March 12 Martyrs' Stadium in Qamishlo, to be used as shelters.

 The statement began with reference to the earthquake that struck Bazarjik district of the city of Marash in Bakur (Northern Kurdistan) yesterday, which affected most of the cities of Bakur Kurdistan and Syria, and continued: "This earthquake led to violent tremors in Syria as well, especially in northern and eastern Syria, which led to a catastrophe, especially in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo and the city of Kobani, where dozens of wounded and martyrs were killed.

He added, "The Kurdish Red Crescent, along with the concerned institutions, held an emergency meeting to discuss how to help our people in north and east Syria."

 He stressed, "We, the Kurdish Red Crescent, took it upon ourselves to build tents and equip wedding halls and restaurants, in addition to supplying medical staff and first aid in the regions of northern and eastern Syria. We sent aid that includes blankets, tents, and life necessities to Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, and we are ready 24 hours a day to serve our people."

 The Crescent expressed the readiness of its trained medical staff to assist the areas affected by the earthquake.

 During its statement, the Kurdish Red Crescent appealed to "all international, humanitarian and health institutions and organizations to provide urgent assistance and lend a helping hand, as our capabilities are limited in terms of medicines and medical devices due to the siege. Our people are still in Sheikh Maqsoud under the rubble, while others live in parks and streets and they need immediate assistance."
