A number of informed sources indicated to our agency that members of the Fourth Division attacked and kidnapped dozens of people from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods passing through its checkpoints.

The sources confirmed that a week ago, the Fourth Division changed its members deployed around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, who have been imposing a siege on the two neighborhoods and al-Shahba district for nearly 5 months.

While a number of eyewitnesses conveyed their vision of the members of the Ashrafieh checkpoint located between the Ashrafieh neighborhood and the areas controlled by the Damascus government, and that they severely beat a citizen who tried to cross the checkpoint to other areas.

Whereas, the personnel of the same checkpoint have kidnapped dozens since this morning on various charges, including possession of more than 150,000 Syrian pounds, and other flimsy charges to kidnap citizens and put pressure on them as part of the siege policies pursued by the government.

Although the Fourth Division allows the passage of vegetables and foodstuffs, it imposes royalties and taxes added to the products as an additional cost, which burdens the citizens in conjunction with the depreciation of the Syrian pound against the dollar and the weak purchasing power of citizens.

It is noteworthy that the Fourth Division of the Damascus government imposes a suffocating siege, through which it prevents the entry of fuel and various means of heating into the two neighborhoods and al-Shahba district, in addition to flour, infant formula and medicines, which threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents in those areas.
