General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods warns: If siege continues, deaths to increase

The administrator in the General Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, Marei al-Shibli, warned of the increase in deaths as a result of the loss of heating materials due to the siege imposed by the Damascus government, and stressed the need to lift the siege.

As a result of the suffocating siege imposed by the Fourth Division of the Damascus government, which prevents the entry of heating materials and medicines into the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, two deaths were recorded for two children, one of whom was 4 years old and the second 17 days old.

The death of a child and an infant due to the cold

Medical reports confirm that the two children, Hussein Abdullah Kibar and Wissam Sido, died as a result of the cold, and in this context, the administrator in the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, Marei Al-Shibli, said: “The two neighborhoods are witnessing tragedies and difficult circumstances, as a result of the siege imposed by the Fourth Division on all aspects of life. The last of which was the death of a child and an infant as a result of the cold, documented by medical reports,” stressing, “If the siege continues, deaths will increase.”

He added, "The Fourth Division prevents us from fuel, medicine, and all the necessities of life, in full view of the concerned authorities, who stand by."

Thousands lives are at risk

Merei called on the concerned authorities to put pressure on the Fourth Division to lift the siege, and said: "We are still calling for lifting the siege, which threatens the lives of thousands, and it has not responded to our demands and calls."
