Israeli raid puts Damascus International Airport out of service

A statement by the Damascus government forces said, on Monday, that an Israeli air strike caused the Damascus International Airport to be out of service, according to an agency affiliated with the Damascus government.

The statement of forced stated that two soldiers were killed in the attack, which led to some material losses.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli strikes targeted Damascus International Airport and a warehouse in its vicinity.

The Syrian Observatory indicated that violent explosions sounded after midnight on Sunday – Monday, in separate areas of the capital, Damascus, and its surroundings, resulting from a new Israeli targeting of Syrian territory, the first during the new year 2023, as Israeli warplanes launched air strikes on sites belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Guard. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in the vicinity and south of the capital, Damascus, amid the failure of the air defense system to intercept the Israeli missiles, no information has been received so far about human losses.

During the past year 2022, Israel targeted Syrian territory, whether through missile or air strikes, 32 times, which resulted in destruction  about 91 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunition depots, headquarters, centers and mechanisms.

These strikes killed 89 soldiers, in addition to wounding 121.
