Another year full of crimes and violations is added to the criminal record of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in the occupied Afrin canton, since their occupation of it on March 18, 2018.

Since that time, the Turkish occupation state has continued in full swing to distort the features and history of occupied Afrin, completing the sabotage approach it inherited from the Ottoman Empire, amid a remarkable escalation of crimes during the year 2022.

Murders and kidnappings

* During the year 2022: the crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries continued, as the occupation killed 33 citizens, including 13 women, from the indigenous population of the occupied Afrin canton, and kidnapped more than 694 citizens, including at least; 46 women, 140 elderly, 10 children.

* Within about 5 years: the outcome of the Turkish occupation’s crimes since its occupation of Afrin in March 2018 until 2022 amounted to more than 663 killings, including 97 women, in addition to the kidnapping of more than 8,644 citizens, including women, children and the elderly.

Destruction of archaeological sites

* During the year 2022: According to the statistics of the Human Rights Organization, Afrin-Syria, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries destroyed 9 archaeological sites in the occupied Afrin canton.

* Within about 5 years: The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries destroyed and stole 59 archaeological sites and hills, in addition to 28 religious shrines of various religions and sects.

Cut down olive and forestry trees

During the year 2022: The Turkish occupation cut down more than 35,000 olive and forest trees throughout the occupied Afrin canton, in addition to burning thousands of trees, especially forest forests.

Within about 5 years: nature had the largest share of the crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in the occupied Afrin canton, where the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries cut down 367,000 olive and forest trees and burned more than 13,500 trees, and more than 12,000 hectares of agricultural land and forests.

During the year 2022: With the support and funding of Palestinian and Muslim Brotherhood associations, the Turkish occupation state established 7 settlements in occupied Afrin, in the villages of Muhammadiyah, Deir Ballut, and Diwa in the Janders district, and in the village of Qarmtlaq on the Syrian-Turkish border in Shia district.

Since the beginning of the occupation: The Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries, with the support of Muslim Brotherhood and Palestinian associations, established more than 22 settlements in the occupied Afrin canton, which included thousands of settlement units in the districts of (Janders - Shia - Rajo - Bulbula - Shara - Mobata - Sherawa, the vicinity of the occupied city of Afrin).

It is noteworthy that the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries from the remnants of mercenary groups such as Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS launched an occupational attack on Afrin canton on January 20, 2018, using all kinds of advanced and internationally prohibited (chemical) weapons, in addition to air strikes. Which resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of citizens, dozens of horrific massacres, thousands of wounded and wounded, the majority of whom were women and children, and the displacement of more than 250,000 people, during their occupation of the canton about 5 years ago.
