2022 witnessed diplomatic openness for AANES

The External Relations Department of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria stated that the year 2022 witnessed a tangible diplomatic openness.

Today, the spokesman for the External Relations Department of AANES, Kamal Akef, revealed during a press conference held at the department's headquarters in the city of Qamishlo, the diplomatic activity of the Autonomous Administration during the year 2022, and the numbers of mercenary families who were handed over by the Autonomous Administration to their countries.

The statement clarified that within the framework of the diplomacy of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria "defining the Autonomous Administration, its specificity and its project as a Syrian national solution project, as well as within the framework of exposing Turkish violations and mercenary groups in the occupied areas and the Turkish attacks on our regions and their repercussions, as well as within the framework of developing the struggle against terrorism. During the year 2022, many events, meetings and seminars were held."

Stressing that "NE Syria witnessed extensive visits by official delegations, parliamentary and party figures, and civil institutions, as the activity of the Department of Foreign Relations increased in many regional and international arenas, and it is possible to talk about tangible diplomatic openness over the past year, politically, security, and humanitarianly."

Diplomatic actions and activities are as follows:

In the Middle East and Arab countries, several new meetings took place with governments, personalities, and civil institutions. Also important work was also accomplished with study centers, civil institutions, parties, and media institutions on the nature of our existing project and historical regional relations. And it was backed by files, letters, and reports related to Turkish violations and threats.

In Asian countries, including Russia, new and important meetings were also held, and there was direct communication with the official authorities and civil actors as well, all of this was within the framework of introducing the AANES and its principles. Also common challenges, the terrorism file, and humanitarian files were discussed.

In Europe, more than 100 meetings took place with official governments, civil Bodies, parliamentarians, human rights and media organizations, and many files and messages were sent about the violations and attacks that occur against our regions. Several seminars, lectures and forums also took place in the same context, in addition to human rights and political meetings, discussions and workshops.

On the level of Syria, the Autonomous Administration is still adhering to its principles towards strengthening the Syrian national dialogue, and there have been some meetings with Damascus with, but these meetings have not yielded anything new until now.

Regarding the department's plans for the next year: "The Department of External Relations in the AANES intends to intensify its diplomatic and political efforts during the 2023 plan towards more work and activity to ensure the achievement of the Autonomous Administration goals; to gain more political, economic and humanitarian support to achieve stability and Syrian national consensus, the liberation of the occupied territories, and the continuation of anti-terrorism operations at various levels, not only within the military-security framework, with gaining international support for that."

The statement also revealed the numbers of family members of ISIS mercenaries, who were handed over by Autonomous Administration to their countries.

AANES handed over 15 people (6 women and 9 children) from families of ISIS mercenaries to the government of Sweden, and also handed over 60 people, including 16 women and 44 children, to the Dutch government, and 68 children from ISIS families to the Russian Federation, and 53 people, including 15 women and 38 children, to Germany.

In addition to handing over a woman and 3 children from ISIS families to Britain, and handed over 13 people, including 4 women and 9 children, to the state of Albania, and 2 children to Austria, and 22 people, including 6 women and 16 children, to the Belgian government, and 109 people, including 32 women and 77 children, to France.

Handed over 146 ISIS families, including 42 women and 104 children, to Tajikistan, a child and a woman to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (YNK), 4 people (2 children and 2 women) to Canada, and 17 people, including 4 women and 13 children, to Australia."
