Jurist: Turkey's use of prohibited weapons should be investigated

The Lawyer Azad Abdi called on international human rights and medical organizations to go to the legitimate defense areas to investigate of use of banned weapons, and called on the Iraqi government to cooperate in this regard.

The Turkish occupation state's use of internationally banned chemical weapons against on the legitimate defense zones, since last April, sparked a lot of angry reactions in the Kurdish street.

There were also demands for transparent investigations by the relevant and competent international authorities, to collect relevant evidence and take appropriate measures against Turkey for its possession of chemical weapons.

In an interview with ANHA Agency, lawyer Azad Abdi said, "International powers have prohibited the use of chemical weapons, and the ban agreement was signed and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was established in 1993 for this purpose, because of the harm that these weapons on humans and the environment in general."

"If a country uses this weapon, that country is subject to investigations, factories are dismantled and weapons containing chemical substances are destroyed," he added.

Although Turkey is one of the countries that signed the agreement, but it uses it, Abdi said, "Recently Turkey used this weapon in its attacks on legitimate defense areas against the Guerilla forces, and the videos and photos showed clear indications of the use of this weapon, as Syndicate of Turkish doctors mentioned. In less than two years, 90 fighters of the People's Defense Forces were martyred in attacks with prohibited weapons of the Turkish occupation army, according to the Media Center of the People's Defense Forces.

Abdi explained that "the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is forming a fact-finding committee, consisting of experts and doctors under the supervision of the United Nations. He added: "From a legal point of view, if it is proven that chemical weapons were used, then this falls under international law the perpetrators must be held accountable at the International Criminal Court in The Hague."

He stressed that " if Turkey refuses to abide by the resolutions of the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, this calls for the implementation of Chapter VII in the UN Security Council and intervention to destroy chemical weapons and laboratories and hold the people involved accountable." In addition to the internationally banned use of chemical weapons, which violates international laws, Azad Abdi said that "Turkey violates other provisions of international law, as it violates the sovereignty of a neighboring country."

At the conclusion of his speech, the lawyer called "the international human rights and medical organizations to go to those areas and show the truth, and also called on the Iraqi government to provide the necessary assistance in this regard."
