On 13 and 14 September, the representative of the Autonomous Administration North and East Syria AANES in Europe, Abdul Karim Omar, held a series of meetings with European parliamentarians in Strasbourg, France, the headquarters of the European Parliament, during which he discussed the challenges that face AANES and region, political, economic and military developments, Turkish attacks and the risks of ISIS's insurgency.

Abdul Karim Omar, in his statement to ANHA’s agency, explained that meetings with European parliamentarians took place individually, focusing on the situation in the region, particularly in North and East Syria, and said "We have confirmed during our meetings that what is happening in north, east and Syria affects the entire world, and developments in the region must not be marginalized."

"During our meetings, we focused on the most significant difficulties that faced AANES, such as political challenges, non-recognition and non-participation of representatives of North and East Syria in the United Nations discussions under the umbrella of the United Nations. We emphasized that the Syrian crisis cannot be resolved without Kurds and AANES, and evidence that no real results have been produced by the meetings of the Supreme Negotiating Committee and the Constitutional Committee. "

"We assured them, yes, ISIS/ Daes has been physically eliminated, but it remains strong through its sleeper cells and extremist ideology that it deployed in the areas it previously occupied, in addition to the danger of its mercenary presence in the detention centers and their families and children in the Roj and al-Hol Camps," Abdul Karim Omar said.

Damascus Government uses such assistance for its political agenda

During his meetings with Europeans, Omar highlighted the economic situation in the region as a result of the blockade of North and East Syria and the low exchange rate of the Syrian pound to world currencies. "We confirmed that the UN humanitarian assistance did not reach North and East Syria through Damascus, after the closure of the Tel Kocher / al-Yarubiyah crossing.

He explained to European parliamentarians that "the economic and living situation affects the daily lives of citizens, especially the areas previously occupied by ISIS, and that ISIS is taking advantage of this situation to regroup and revive itself."

The representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in Europe said, "We have focused at length on Turkish attacks against the region, and we have confirmed that the Turkish state is targeting unarmed civilians and SDF commanders who have been leading fronts against ISIS mercenaries, foremost among them; Jiyan Tolhildan, (leader in the counter-terrorism units) and her colleagues, who were directly coordinating with the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, and Turkish occupation UAV bombed an educational centre in the village of Shmouka on the Hasakah-Tal Tamr road, which led to the martyrdom of 5 children .”

Settlement of one and a half million refugees contrary to international values and covenants

Omar noted: "We have explained to European parliamentarians that Turkish threats and preparations for a new offensive against the region create a state of fear, panic and instability among the population of the region, leading to a situation of displacement towards Europe, in addition to ISIS also exploiting instability to carry out its terrorist operations."

"The Kurds in Afrin were more than 95%, and now they have decreased to less than 20%, and the crimes continue there in order to displace the remaining Kurds."

"We have explained that Turkey's attempts to settle one and a half million Syrians in the occupied areas are contrary to international values and covenants," Omar said: "We have asked them to press the European Parliament, European Governments and the United Nations to carry out their responsibilities in recognizing of AANES and supporting the AANES's position to become part of the negotiations to resolve the crisis and to pressure their Governments to provide economic support to the region, and to send major companies to the region to establish investment projects that improve the living situation and in turn contribute to the stabilization of the region and to stand up to Turkish attacks and threats against the region, and to close the airspace to Turkish aircraft and UAVs and the fulfilment by the international community of its responsibilities towards the dossier of ISIS mercenaries by establishing a court in North and East Syria to prosecute mercenaries ".

On the outcome of those meetings, Abdul Karim Omar stressed that European parliamentarians were very understanding of what had been put forward and discussed, and stressed the importance of stability in the region and the non-marginalization of North and East Syria, especially after the attack by ISIS mercenaries on al-Sina’a prison early this year, and said, "Everyone has confirmed that they owe the Kurds and the components of North and East Syria."

Parliamentarians have confirmed that the people of North and East Syria have protected humanity and the international community from real danger and continue their humanitarian tasks."

Abdul Karim Omar revealed that "European parliamentarians have confirmed that they will press the European Parliament, their governments and the United Nations for formal political recognition of AANES, improvement of the economic situation, provision of humanitarian aid, standing up to Turkish attacks and not allowing Turkey to extort NATO and the international community in order to implement its plans against North and East Syria."

"We will prepare a letter on these items and hand it over to the Council of Europe in order to support AANES," he said.
