Danger of running out of medicines looms on horizon in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh

 Since August 20, 2020, the Damascus government has imposed a siege on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, and since August 1, members of the Fourth Division of the Damascus government have prevented medicines from entering the two neighborhoods.

 More than 216,000 people of different components live in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, who suffer from the difficulty of securing food, fuel and medicine due to this siege.

 In two weeks, the medicines will run out

 According to a pharmacist in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, who preferred not to reveal his name, confirmed that the checkpoints of the Fourth Division of the Damascus government have prevented the entry of medicines into the two neighborhoods since the beginning of August until today.

 He said, "If this siege continues during the next month, pharmacies will run out of medicines, and because of the road closures, the people will find it difficult to secure medicines for chronic diseases, and they are primarily affected by this siege imposed by the Damascus government."

 Inhuman and immoral blockade

 In a related context, the co-chair of the Health Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, Laila Hassan, indicated that they are suffering due to a lack of medicines to treat patients, and she said, "We worked several times to bring medicines, but after that we were unable to secure them."

 "There are all components in the two neighborhoods, including those who were displaced from the areas of the Damascus government to the two neighborhoods as a result of the availability of security and stability, and many people suffer from chronic diseases.

 At the end of her speech, Leila Hassan asked, "Are Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh not from the neighborhoods of Aleppo, and the people who live here, aren't they Syrians until this siege is imposed on them?
