With the loss of ISIS, on which Turkey relied, large areas in the liberation battles waged by the Syrian Democratic Forces in northern and eastern Syria;  With his retreat in the face of the advance of the Manbij Military Council forces in the summer of 2016 and their arrival at the outskirts of Jarablus and Al-Bab;  Turkey hastened to save what was left of ISIS remnants by entering Syrian territory and occupying a number of cities in a handover play between ISIS and the Turkish state under Russian auspices, and no objection from the international coalition formed against ISIS at the time.

Turkey and the historical occupation mentality

The Turkish occupation entered the Syrian territories through the city of Jarablus on August 24, 2016, that is, 500 years after the famous battle of Marj Dabiq, in which the Ottomans invaded the Levant after their defeat of the Mamluks on August 24, 1516 north of the city of Aleppo and their extension to the Levant and the Arab countries of North Africa.

Where Ankara's messages were clear by choosing the date on which the Syrian lands were entered and occupied;  It is a step that was a dream in Turkey for nearly 100 years after the Ottomans lost the First World War alongside Germany and the victorious countries in the war drew the current borders of the Turkish state, which Turkey considered an unfair division, in light of the exit of many areas from the control of the Ottoman Empire.

While most of the peoples of the Middle East consider that the existence of the Turkish state is essentially unfair in the region, as the Ottomans have no more than 900 years of history in the Middle East, according to the consensus of historians, as they came from East Asia to Anatolia after the 1071 Battle of Malazıkerd, through which the Seljuks entered  They are the ancestors of the Ottomans to Kurdistan and Anatolia after their defeat of the Byzantines.

Turkey's entry into Syrian territory came in agreement with Damascus and Moscow

Undisclosed agreements between the Damascus government and Ankara, under the auspices of Moscow, led to the Turkish forces entering the Syrian territories and preventing the advance of the SDF towards the city of al-Bab and reaching the besieged Afrin canton.  While Turkey withdrew 16,000 mercenaries from the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo in December 2016, the Damascus government forces controlled the entire city of Aleppo, except for the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods, which were protected by the People's Protection Units and Women.

In this context, the official spokesman for the Northern Democratic Forces in Syria, Mahmoud Habib, said in an interview with our agency, "What has become clear is that the Damascus government has no objection to Turkey entering and occupying Syrian territory, in light of Ankara's support for Damascus to empty areas in eastern and western Ghouta and others."  from the regions and the abortion of the Syrian popular movement since 2011 until now.”

Under Turkish sponsorship...Northern Syria is a hotbed of "global terrorism"

Just prior to its entry into the Syrian war;  Turkey allowed through its territory more than 40,000 ISIS militants to cross into Syria, coming from 110 countries around the world between 2014 and 2016, according to what the former US special envoy to the international coalition against ISIS, Brett McGurk, confirmed in a tweet on his Twitter.  Some areas in northern Syria "caused killings, kidnappings, looting and forced displacement in areas controlled by Turkey."

At present, Ankara is waving slogans of fighting terrorism, while turning the occupied areas in northern Syria into a hotbed of "global terrorism".

Where the US forces, in coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces between 2019 and 2022, targeted a number of ISIS mercenaries leaders in the areas occupied by Turkey in northern Syria, led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi and Maher al-Aqal, who are the most prominent leaders of ISIS, kilometers from Turkish territory, in the areas  In which ISIS is freely operating alongside the Turkish occupation army.

About that, Mahmoud Habib said, "30,000 Uyghurs, Chechens and Turkmens are guarded by Turkey in Idlib and the occupied areas, as Turkey works to invest these and push them in external battles and achieve the goals of the Turkish state, and they move openly and without restrictions within the Turkish territories and in the occupied areas.  Northern Syria.

Habib pointed out that, "It cannot be said that Turkey has a role in fighting ISIS, as the international coalition, of which Turkey is a member, did not accept its participation in the fight against terrorism, knowing that Turkey had established close relations with ISIS and supported it militarily and logistically, and that preceded the crossing of thousands of ISIS members through Turkish territory when it was  ISIS controls large areas of Syria and Iraq.

He added, "Turkish officials were not talking about national security when ISIS controlled the Syrian border strip with Turkey. Basically, Turkey was benefiting from the presence of ISIS on its borders on two levels, the first of which is the promotion of the Islamic jihadist ideology that Erdogan adopts, and secondly, the preparation of these areas for Turkish entry and occupation, in addition to  To Turkey’s sponsorship of ISIS remnants and extremist radical organizations in the world and its communication with them through its intelligence services and through the Muslim Brotherhood, and all of this is clear to everyone.”

"Occupied Territories Threatened with Disengagement from the Syrian Body"

Commenting on the future of the region, Habib said, "When Turkey learned that the international coalition would not have great endeavors west of the Euphrates due to international divisions, Turkey took advantage of the opportunity to occupy Syrian lands under the pretext of fighting terrorism by launching flimsy slogans and phrases, but in implementation of its main plan, which is to occupy Syrian lands and annex them to Turkish lands.  Especially the province of Aleppo, which Turkey calls, which extends from Idlib to al-Hasakah, according to their understanding, and they are seeking to do so now.

He continued, "The occupied areas are threatened with separation from the Syrian body, when there is knowledge, currency and education. We have to realize the depth of the scene in the occupied areas. The Turkish entry is not to solve the Syrian crisis, but to achieve the ambitions and desires of Erdogan and his government.  It leaves no doubt that these areas are going to a prolonged occupation."

The state has worked to change the Syrian social fabric and bring about demographic changes targeting the region extending from Afrin to Jarablus and from Serêkaniyê to Girê Spî during the past years.

According to the data and information, the Turkish occupation has transformed the safe areas in north and east Syria, after its occupation, into large military barracks in conjunction with the construction of artificial borders to cut off Syrian territory in light of the construction of more than 50 military bases.
