​​​​​​​Preparations in Afrin region: Basements and caves prepared, trenches dug

On July 6, The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the delaration of a state of emergency in light of the lates threats from the Turkish occupation state to carry out new occupation attacks against the region.

The Municipal Council of Afrin Region has in response to the declaration of a state of emergency, started on preparations for war.

PROTECTIVE UNDERGROUND SHELTERS PREPARED

Shahba canton`s Tal Rifaat district, an area which the Turkish occupation is threatening to attack and occupy, the residents are well underway in their preparations and have organized themselves according to the prinsiples of Revolutionary People`s War.

In this context, the Municipal Councils have with great help from the district`s residents, prepared more than 200 underground shelters for protection.

Fayiq Ahmed, co-chair of the Municipal Council of Afrin Region spoke to ANHA and said:” The Turkish occupation state have been threating with new attacks against the region for the last two months. In light of these threats, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), declared a state of emergency. As the Municipal Council, we have started our preparations accordingly.”

TRENCHES DUG IN THE VILLAGES

The villages in Sherawa district which are facing the frontlines have been subjected to constant shelling for the last 4 years. As a response to the latest threats from Turkey, the Municipal Councils have started digging trenches around the villages. Ahmed spoke on the matter and stated: “ By digging trenches in the villages facing the frontlines where the Turkish occupation mercenaries are deployed, we are able to provide protection.”

CAVES IN SHERAWA GETTING CLEANED

The Sherawa district is know for it mountainous nature and there are many caves there which provides protection. The residents of the district can take advantage of these and use them for protection when there are attacks.

The Municipal Council have started to clean and prepare these caves for use when attacks are launched. 

FUEL STORED FOR ELECTRICITY AND WATER

As known, the Damascus government has imposed an embargo against Shahba canton which has resulted in difficulties to get enough diesel. The Municipal Council has recently stocked up on diesel in tanks and stated that it is for use for electricity and water pumps in wells in the case of an attack. Diesel will provide power to waterpumps in wells which in turn can fill up water tanks and distributed among the residents.

Fayiq Ahmed continued on the difficulties of diesel distribution: “Distribution of diesell is challenging work. The embargo makes it difficult to stock up on fuel. The latest threats along with the embary increases the pain the people are going through”
