Iraqi FM arrives in New York to discuss Turkish massacre in Zakho

 And the Foreign Ministry statement on Twitter said, "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in New York to attend the emergency session of the UN Security Council to discuss the Turkish aggression on Iraqi territory."

 The UN Security Council said in a statement that its members condemned "in the strongest terms the attack in the Iraqi province of Dohuk on July 20, 2022, which killed at least 9 civilians, including children."

 The statement added, "The members of the Security Council expressed their sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the Iraqi government, and their support for the Iraqi authorities in their investigations into the attack."

The members of the Council reiterated their support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, and the democratic process and prosperity in Iraq.

 In turn, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, today, Tuesday, that the Security Council statement supports Iraq's position, while noting that it is the first of its kind.

Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Security Council's statement condemning the attack on Iraq's sovereignty is the first of its kind in the context of a series of Turkish violations of Iraq's sovereignty and security."

 He added that "the content of the statement supports Iraq's position and puts the procedures for considering the attack on national sovereignty in a new context."

 The attack of the Turkish occupation state on Zakho and its perpetration of the massacre provoked reactions from Iraqi, Arab and Western officials, and all political forces in Iraq, with the exception of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, demanded the Iraqi government to take actual measures to stop the Turkish attacks, and condemned the weak position of the Al-Kazemi government.
