​​​​​​​German lawmakers recognize Yazidi genocide

According to AFP the German lawmakers have admitted that the practices committed by ISIS against the Yazidis in northwest Iraq in 2014 were genocide.

" Recognizing the genocide is an essential step in overcoming the traumas inflicted on the Yazidi community," said Green Party MP Max Lux, recalling the fragile situation of the survivors still living in Iraq.

He added, "A safe life and peace is what should be our ambition for the Yazidi community."

Last November, a German court convicted an Iraqi affiliated with ISIS of committing genocide against the Yazidis.

Worth to note that a United Nations investigative team announced in May 2021 that it had collected clear and convincing evidence that ISIS had committed genocide against the Yazidis. For its part, the British Guardian newspaper published a special report on an investigation carried out by a human rights organization, calling for Turkey to be brought before the International Court, due to accusations of complicity in genocide against the Yazidis.

The newspaper's diplomatic editor, Patrick Wintour, wrote that the investigation also blamed Syria and Iraq for their failure to protect the Yazidis on their soil.

The writer quoted lawyers in the "Yazidi Justice Committee", their call to hold countries accountable under international law.

The writer stated that there is widespread agreement that the Yazidis were subjected to genocide in Iraq and Syria. The report issued after a three-year investigation, investigated the conduct of 13 countries, but three of them failed in their duty to take reasonable steps to prevent genocide.

" On April 2014, Turkish officials had turned a blind eye to the sale, transfer, and enslavement of Yazidi women and children, and helped ISIS fighters in Syria, which contributed to strengthening the perpetrators of the genocide.
