jurist: building the separation wall is illegal

A jurist said that the decision to build a separation wall between Shengal district and Rojava is a political decision, which came to serve the agendas and policies of Turkish occupation state.

Since March, Al-Kazemi government has continued to build a concrete wall separating Shengal district and Rojava, with the complicity of Kurdistan Democratic Party, which will extend 250 kilometers in length and four meters in height, in completion of the agreement that was held between the two parties on December 9 2020, regarding Shengal.

The construction of the wall provoked condemning reactions, especially in north and east of Syria, and Shengal, which expressed its condemnation of the massive demonstrations that came out on the borders and the areas where the wall is located, through which they stressed that the construction of the wall is an implementation of the plans of Turkish occupation state, and its construction is illegal.

The judge in the court of justice in Hasaka, Tariq al-Yazidi, does not see any legitimacy in the decision of building this wall, while commenting through a statement to ANHA agency on the legitimacy of this decision.

He said, "This decision is a political decision," because it was not issued by Iraqi authorities, such as Iraqi parliament or Council of Ministers, and stressed that it was not passed through Iraqi parliament, or taken by the Presidency of the Republic.

added "Their goal is to separate and isolate the Kurdish people in Başûr Kurdistan and Rojava, from each other, in response to the desires and plans of Turkish occupation state."

And he expressed his rejection, and Kurdish peoples rejection of the wall, warning the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi of the consequences of continuing to build it, on the future of Iraq and its peoples.

The jurist explained that peoples with a common culture have the right to live among themselves without borders separating them, and not to recognize the borders that were originally designed to divide those peoples and separate them from each other, "And what the State of Iraq is doing in building a separation wall among Kurdish people contradicts the right of peoples to self-determination."
