Biden said that the US raid at dawn on Thursday, had killed ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, according to the Associated Press.
"Thanks to skill and courage of our armed forces, we have removed from the battlefield the leader of ISIS, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi," Biden said in a statement.
"All the Americans involved in the operation returned safely," he added.
US special forces carried out what the Pentagon described as a large-scale counter-terrorism raid in northwest Syria, in which residents say lasted more than two hours, rocked the village of Atamah, near the Turkish border - an area dotted with camps for displaced people.
This is the largest raid in the region since the US attack in 2019, which killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
